So Cold, So Us

Some vacations capture the zig-zag-y nature of our family's interests: this is one of them.

First, we're the people who head further North when it's 5 degrees. It's why we first saw Niagara Falls six years ago ... frozen In February.  It's why we first experienced the beauty of Ottawa's Rideau Canal ... when we were skating on it while eating deliciously buttery beaver tail pastries and drinking hot chocolate.

Second, we're the people who see a stop at an indoor water park faux lodge hotel as the perfect prelude to a tour of a Jean-Michel Basquiat retrospective. It's why we took a break from FanExpo to see the Ai Weiwei exhibit.  It's why we went from the Doctor Who 50th Celebration to the Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre.

Et voila--our long weekend begins with a stay at Great Wolf Lodge, where the five feet of snow outside has no impact on the swim park inside.

Our room offered enough space for reading and resting :). Plus a jacuzzi!

This is our second trip to GWL. So we felt at home in the gift shop ..,

the restaurant ...

the game room ...

and the teeny bowling alley!

C'est la vie--much of art, like our family, travels in that liquid seam between the sublime and the ridiculous.
